What happens when wind turbines are removed?

The siting of wind turbines is governed by long-term agreements, which can cover anywhere from 20 to 30 years, depending upon the expected life span of the turbine. When turbines are removed, the land is returned to virtually its original condition. Typically, tower foundations and other structures are removed to a specified below-ground depth.
